Nanette Sissney of Whitesboro is one of the top three vote-getters for an active public school employee position on the Teacher Retirement System Board of Trustees.
With only 24,596 of the 749,972 eligible voters participating in the election, Sissney received the second highest number of votes (3,972).
The top vote-getter was Melissa McGee, assistant director for the Mesquite ISD Learning Center, who received 5,607 votes, and in third place was Bill Tarleton, superintendent of the Abbott ISD, who received 3,086 votes.
The governor will appoint the trustee from the top three vote-getters, and the appointee must be confirmed by the Senate.
The appointment would be expected sometime after Aug. 31, when the current board member's term expires.
The nine-member TRS Board includes two slots reserved for active public school employees. Former TCTA State President Charlotte Clifton was appointed to fill one of those positions in early 2008, and the other active member seat expires in 2009.
Sissney is a counselor at Whitesboro Intermediate School and chair of the TCTA Professional Rights and Responsibilities Committee.
