State minimum salary schedule
The Texas Education Code establishes a state minimum salary schedule that must be implemented by Texas public school districts for specific public education professionals–Texas classroom teachers, full-time librarians, full-time counselors and full-time school nurses (RNs only). There is no state minimum salary for any other position.
The salaries for teachers, full-time librarians, full-time counselors, full-time nurses and full-time speech pathologists were increased in 2009 pursuant to HB 3646. The amount of the increase had two components. The first component was an increase equivalent to the greater of $60 per weighted student divided equally by the number of employees in these categories, or $800. The second component was a step increase calculated by the increase in salary the employee would have received on the salary schedule for 2008-09 if that schedule were in effect for 2009-10. In response to a request from the commissioner of education, the Texas Attorney General issued an opinion that a second step increase is required for employees who would have received an increase on the local salary schedule for the 2008-09 school year if that schedule were in effect for the 2010-11 school year.
The following chart shows the state minimum for the 2009-10 school year as prepared by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). TEA has not yet released the 2010-11 schedule, though the state minimum
salary schedule will probably not change. Visit TEA’s website for the latest information. PLEASE NOTE: Most school districts pay
more than the state minimum salary schedule; contact your district’s human
resources department to view a copy of your local salary schedule.
